Deep Bandwidth goes Mobile

Wired Sky launches new multi-mobile router from Viprinet

Wired Sky has officially launched the new Multichannel VPN Router 500 from Viprinet. The router  was first introduced during CeBIT 2011 in Hannover. Specifically designed for industrial (M2M and MRM) and mobile applications the Viprinet 500 has the unique ability to bundle the bandwidth of up to four mobile (3G or 4G) connections together into  one “large bandwidth pipe”. Wired Sky's Managing Director had this to say about the 500: "Most conventional multiple sim, in-Vehicle routers work by load balancing connectivity across two or three connections. This method limits applications that require signififcant bandwidth such as streaming live HD video from vehicles. In recent testing on Australian networks the Viprinet routers provided bandwidth ranges of between 10-50 megabits down and 6-20 megabits of upstream. And because the units are network agnostic they provide excellent redundancy. As the Australian and New Zealand distributor for the Viprinet range we are very excitied to add the 500 to the Viprinet range."

Below is a screen-shot displaying available bandwidth during a recent test utilising just 1 x 4G and 2 x 3G sim cards on the Telstra network.

Another key advantage the Viprinet product has is its ability to measure and manage network latency. This completely unique feature provides for much more reliable connectivity and application performance in the most difficult of mobile environments.

Despite its high bandwidth availability the 500 is a compact (12 x 5 x 20 cm) unit at an  energy efficient 15 Watts. It also includes an integrated 802.11n Access point and GPS functionality for mobile tracking.
The unit contains no movable parts inside an IP66 rated robust chassis allowing it to easily withstand e.g. vibrations and operating temperatures of -10 - 45 °C and comes with a 3 year warranty.
This router allows the realization of mobile linkage scenarios in vehicles, outdoor areas or industry that has been unavailable up to now,” says Simon Kissel, Founder and CEO of Viprinet GmbH.
Initial projects with the 500 model have already begun: The Multichannel VPN Router 500 is deployed in rescue services, fire departments, transport companies, as
well as in field service.
“It's amazing what this device renders possible,” Kissel adds, “our customers never seize to surprise us with new ideas concerning the router's application.”
Wired Sky is currently seeking local M2M /MRM  partners to develop the product further for the local market.
