Billabong Pro Jnr gets beam-forming WiFi solution from Wired Sky at Narrabeen Beach

Surfing NSW contracted Wired Sky to design and install a networked WiFi solution to support media, surfing professionals and operational staff during the recent Billabong Pro junior event at Narrabeen Beach.

The core element of the WiFi solution from Wired Sky was a number of enterprise grade beam forming access points from Ruckus Wireless. Matt Hall Wired Sky's managing director had this to say about the project and the use of the Ruckus 7962 AP's: "Outdoor sporting events tend to be fairly complex environments for WiFi. For example some users might be located in steel site sheds, others might be 50 metres away in another building or inside a marquee. Within the environment you also tend to have significant electromagnetic influences from large generators. Designing a solution that is cost effective ie doesnt involve having to rig lots of access points and yet will still perform well in this difficult environment requires very smart wireless technology. The beam forming adaptive antenna technology built into our Ruckus access points ticks those boxes for us. The Ruckus technology can bend WiFi signals to avoid RF obstacles or interference and will always maintain the path of least resistance to individual users. "
